Jeremiah 2:13

5 am this morning I was awaken by the words, "JEREMIAH 2:13." My first thoughts were, "What do they mean and why am I receiving them?" Rolling over and attempting to return to sleep became futile because the words were burning in my brain. Instead of finding my bible I decided to look the verse up on the computer. This turned into a study session which began with these words, For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

Finally after posting the verse to my Facebook page  for comments the frequency of the repetation of the words in my mind subsided. I understand what they mean now but this morning I was not so sure.

I have struggled many years with judging others harshly for what I perceive as hypocritical acts when in reality, I am the hypocrite

The Valley of Death...

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psalms 23:4

This past week the deep southern portion of the United States was battered for a couple of days by Hurricane Issac and at times it may have felt like the Valley of Death for some folks. Many lost all of their worldly possessions in the flood waters yet they feared no evil because they know that material things can be replaced. The folks who believe in a  loving God know that Romans 8:28 says, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

It is during times like these that our faith is tested and people will start to grumble but if we stand fast on the promises of God and remember that in Hebrews 13:5 the bible says, "
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" we will be ok.

My first teaching gig...

August 21, 2012

My day started out full of stress because before I started my teaching gig I had to prepare 60+ meals for students and teachers. At 9am I was alone in the kitchen with a ton of work left to do before I had to be ready to start service at 11am. I was preparing Chicken Tetrazzini and anyone who has ever cooked this dish in bulk knows it takes time to do it right. Thank goodness I had done some of the prep work Monday. At approx 9:30 a couple of friends stopped by on their way to clean some carpets in another area of the school and saw my dilemma and took pity on me. They jumped in and helped and we served the first plate of Chicken Terrazine, Sweet peas, Fruit cocktail and Garlic bread with sweet tea at exactly 11am. My class started at 12 and the ladies stayed around and cleaned the kitchen while I was teaching my class.

American Government is the first class I have ever taught on my own. This should stretch my abilities and allow me to explore my own desireto learn more about our system of government. I figure I have the books and a captive audience so what the heck, I will give it a shot. What do they know? They are kids...lol
Hopefully, I will blind them with my brilliance... :) Plus, I watch the news, read papers, follow political blogs online. All that said, I am as qualified to help these kids learn what they need to know as most teachers.

Wish me luck.

Sept 7th
All is well. The class is still intact and I haven't had any complaints about my cooking.  Since I last posted a message our neck of the woods experienced Hurricane Issac which stayed around for a few days blowing trees down and dumping lots of water on the area. The electricity at my house was out for 19 hours but my sister was out for 2 days. They had a generator which keep them in business. We missed 3 days of school which delayed our first quiz but we were able to get it out of the way on the second day back. Sept 5th. My class seems to like me which is always a good thing.

The cooking part of my day has been going well and the feed back has been great. Support from student and teachers is all I can ask for and some of the young ladies would help out in the kitchen if they were allowed too. Given an alternative I would have them with me all morning at least one day per week. let them cook lunch so they can see how it feel to have folks eat and appreciate your effort. I am going to work on this as a project for a later date.

I have some photo's to post of a couple of the meals we have served lately. I was unable to make it to school on Tuesday some of the kids told me that they missed my cooking because my food was much better. I was not the least bit surprised to  receive that news. :)

Honey Badger is gone for good.

Honey Badger is off the Team for good.

Louisiana State University standout and Heisman Trophy runner-up for 2011 Tyrann Mathieu is off the team for good. BATON ROUGE -- Tyrann Mathieu has been dismissed from the LSU football team for violation of team policy, head coach Les Miles announced on Friday.
With this news, rampant speculation began to swirl as to the reason for the dismissal. Mathieu better known as the "Honey Badger" because of his tenacious playing ability and haircut has a history of smoking Marijuana and the rumor is he failed another drug test. I would say at this point that it is more likely than not that the LSU standout will be playing in a uniform other than purple and gold when the season starts.

This is a sad turn about for the young man who could have been more than a hero to Tiger fans he could have been an icon and a legend had he as rumor suggest not decided that getting high was more important than his reputation and his team.

Good luck with your future, Tyrann, I hope you get things back on the right track before it's too late.

I'm ALONE not LONELY so go AWAY!

When I first decided to watch this video it was for selfish reasons. I am alone a lot and it only made sense to find out what someone else may have to say about my state of being which I may not have already contemplated at some point in the past.

After, watching the video and deciding it was time well spent I felt the need to comment on it which should be fine seeing that I have spent some much time alone in my life.

Alone, is a place millions of people find themselves at some point in their lives and if one does not learn fairly quickly how to cope they will become depressed which leads to feelings of worthlessness and despair (loneliness) and in their desperation to alleviate their loneliness may become entangled in relationships which in the end will leave them even more despondent and alone and in a cycle of "failure".

While reading this "article" you may at times find I wander around a bit which is my style of writing, speaking, thinking, etc...

A few years ago, in 2004, I decided to attend a four year university and earn a degree in Psychology. To cut through the chase I am nine credits short but who's keeping tabs? (argh) I figured my life experiences made me the perfect candidate to be a Psychology major and I was correct in that many of the courses I took made perfect sense because I was already familiar with the material except when it came to Advanced Statics which I failed miserably, twice. So I left college with 9 hours left, "to protect my GPA."

Before college, I had been in the workforce for over 25 years, many of those years were spent in some form of Sales so I never had a problem, Winning Friends and Influencing People. My problem was and has always been an abject Fear of Failure in the sense that I do not like to disappoint other people. As a result of fear, I have always been somewhat of a procrastinator which if left unchecked will guarantee self destruction. In past relationships, I have walked away rather than take the chance of getting my heart broken not realizing or caring that my walking away broke a heart. I didn't care and as long as "my" heart was intact I knew I would be fine. This attitude if left unchecked leads to a state of loneliness somewhere down the road.

As I have gotten older I have actually learned to enjoy being alone with my thoughts, laptop, books, television, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, my blog, and the rest of the Internet. Hell, who has time for real people when there is so much to do without leaving the comfort of my home. J/K, but all of that stuff does make being alone just a little bit easier.

Contrary to popular belief I do get out of the house almost everyday. :)

My friend Denny sent this comment to my Facebook page:

Denis Abbott
I tried to leave a comment in the blog but after 2 tries gave up. It had something to do with a profile .... In any case, a couple of additional items that were not on the video. Fishing is a good activity. It allows one to gather one's thoughts and people are used to seeing people fishing alone. Driving the tractor while "farming" is an excellent use of time alone. Also, even better is learning a new skill while driving a tractor. I have heard that learning to yodel while driving the tractor has twofold benefits. First, you accomplish the farming task, and secondly, you can then hire yourself out as a yodeler at special events like Oktoberfest.

To which I add: Any solo activity such as writingpainting, photography, bird watching, playing video games, working in the garden, walking, running, or just sitting in quiet contemplation (meditation), work to combat loneliness.

In my opinion, being alone is a time to recharge one's batteries. Loneliness is a whole different story and if the feeling persists for a prolonged period of time should be treated by a mental health professional. There is no shame in feeling lonely. People are by nature social creatures and some people need more human contact than others and when they are deprived become depressed.

As a side note: Many of the world's great accomplishments were achieved by a person working alone. I put the words "working alone" into Bing and nearly every article which popped up was a variation of the thought process of, "working alone or with others" it is as if the idea of working alone isn't worth exploring unless it is related to working with others in some form or fashion.

The original title before I decided to go a different direction was, I'm ALONE not DESPERATE so go AWAY! I may explore this angle later, just a thought.

Smothered Pork-chops with Onions in Redeye Gravy

Ingredients:
Pork-chops
Seasoning blend (your preference)
Salt to taste
1 package of brown gravy mix
2 med onions
1/2 cup of brewed coffee
1 cup of cold water
2 tbl spoons of Olive Oil.
2 tbl spoons of Bacon Grease

Directions:
In a bowl: Coat Pork-chops with Olive Oil and seasoning blend
Add coffee and cover chops.
Place the Pork-chops in the fridge while sweating the onions in a black iron skillet.
While the Onions are Sweating (cooking with just enough salt to draw the water out of them) start the gravy by following the directions on the package.
Once the Onions are sufficiently caramelized or sweated add them to the gravy.

To the hot skillet add bacon grease and sear the pork chops.
Pour the coffee marinade into the gravy and turn it on low for 5 minutes being careful not to let it get too thick and burn.

Once the Pork-Chops are seared add gravy and turn on lowest setting, add water if necessary and cook for 10 - 15 minutes with lid on. Serve over rice or bread of your choice.

How To Analyze People On Sight

How to Analyze People on Sight, by Elsie Lincoln Benedict and Ralph Paine Benedict

This book written in 1921 is amazing in that it stereotypes people by grouping them into 5 types and analyzes each type in such detail that it would lead one to believe the authors could be on to something.

If I had read this book earlier in life and utilized a few of the techniques introduced in it to pick up women or improve my sales ability I may have been a little better at both. Now that I think about it, if I had been any better, I would probably have been labeled a conman. Nowadays, I read books related to sales tactics and how to analyze people more for the enjoyment than for the practicality. I remember going to seminars where such techniques were taught and people got rich selling books and tapes to others who were eager to learn how to get rich quick by getting others to work for them.

I learned that getting rich is not as easy as some would have you believe.
Running around all over the country selling vacuum cleaners or weight-loss supplements among other products while applying Multilevel Marketing techniques was fun but all it netted me was a bunch of friends and family who were just as disillusioned as I was when it was all over.

Today, when I see a late night infomercial touting the ease with which one can flip houses or real estate in a down economy, I want to throw my shoe at the televisions because it is all B.S. and the only person making any real money is the guy selling the programs.

1984 by George Orwell

Orwell’s
1984 hardly needs an introduction (although Christopher Hitchens, author of Why Orwell Matters, does a nice job contextualizing the novel in this radio appearance). Originally published in 1949, the novel came to television in 1954, courtesy of the BBC. The live production, featuring scenes considered “horrific” and “subversive” at the time, shocked viewers across England. One viewer reportedly collapsed and died while watching the program. A wave of controversy followed, and, amidst it all, the BBC decided to air a second live performance and record it to 35mm film. (Watch above or here.) Years later, the British Film Institute ranked the production 73rd on its list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programs of the 20th century. www.openculture.com/2012/01/orwells_1984_animal_farm_adapted_to_film.html

Watch the film here: 1984 by George Orwell

There was a time when people read the book or watched this film and laughed at the absurdity of it all but the reality of it has root in the world today. We are controlled at every turn by a government which wants more and more control over our everyday lives and more of our people are willing to just give it to them in exchange for what they perceive to be a "free" ride. There are more folks on some sort of governmental assistance (approx. 1 in 6 people in the United States) and less people working (over 8.2% unemployment more like 14% -18%) than at any other time in our countries history except during the Great Depression and it is does look like it will be getting any better in the near future. It is during times like these that people look for help and if that help comes in the form of "Big Brother" they will gladly give up their rights in exchange for a better situation.

Seconds are ticking away.

If we allow ourselves to think about the fact that each second wasted is a second gone forever, would we be better stewards of our time? David E. Carroll Jr.

"Why can't time just STOP slipping away and give me a minute to get my stuff together?" This is one of the first thoughts which entered my mind as I awoke this morning followed immediately by the thought, "You have had 48 years+ to get it together how much more time do you need?"

"Yes, But..."

"There are no BUTS, you have squandered your time so don't expect any pity from me?"

"Where the hell did this come from and who or what has invaded my thoughts and why today?"

"Where were you when I was a teenager with my life stretched out before me like a road without an horizon?"

"I was here."

"Where were you during my twenties when I was an energetic and ambitious young man struggling to become a man and make a name for myself?"

"I was here."

"Where were you during my thirties when I was beginning to take root and grow?"

"Once again, Here."

"And now in the closing hours of my forties you show up with this B.S. telling me I have squandered my time, How dare you?"

"Well, haven't you? Be honest with yourself for once in your life! Could you have done more? Cumulatively, over your lifetime, How many weeks have you spent sitting in front of the television or on your computer just wasting time? Sure, you have had some legitimate setbacks in your life but who the hell hasn't and even though you have always said that you have not let the setbacks affect you, apparently, they have because you have not been the man I know you to be for the last few years."

"But, I am more intelligent now than I have ever been in my life."

"Really? Are you really? Yes, you are more educated than at any time in your life but intelligence is the ability to take what you know and apply it in some way to benefit your life or someone else's? I dunno know bro. and you are fooling yourself if you think you are capable of blowing smoke up my invisible anus, so just stop it! I have always been with you, waiting patiently while you wandered around like a ship without a rudder."

"Oh come on, Man! Don't you think that was a little below the belt?"

"Tick, Tick, Tick..."

"AUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!!"

Why do innocent people die?

Why do innocent people die? This question, I am sure has been on people's minds since the beginning of time. Many great men and women have attempted to answer it and while some have done a good job no one really has the answer.

The tragic occurrence in Aurora, Colorado, a few days ago, is a prime example of folks who were minding their own business, settling in to watch the new Batman movie,  "The Dark Knight Rises", and a few minutes later 72 people were either dead, dying or wounded.

In the coming days, weeks, months and years we will hear "experts" attempt to make sense out of a senseless event. There will be activists calling for stricter gun control while others declare that if more guns had been in the theater that night maybe this would not have happened. My thoughts on this matter are: "If the shooter did not had access to guns he could have just as easily caused death and destruction by whatever means he had at his disposal. The hijackers on 911 used box-cutters to hi-jack jetliners and used them to kill 3000 innocent people. People use machetes to cut off heads in third world countries. I could go on and on by what;s the point? Evil thrives everywhere and there is no explanation to the question, WHY DO INNOCENT PEOPLE DIE?"

Listed below is an attempt to answer a question of a similar nature.

Why do Innocent suffer?

Talking to strangers...

I was lying here (just got off Facebook) thinking, "How many people actually take time to speak to total strangers face to face on a daily basis?" I don't know if it is just a Southern thing or not but I had heard it was not as common for folks, up north, to talk to strangers, so while visiting a few years ago, I made people talk to me by asking questions. Surprisingly enough people are will ing to talk if approached in the right way.  On the other hard every time I go into a anywhere down here, I find myself in a conversation with a total stranger.

The technological world we live in today makes it really easy for folks to hide behind their electronic devices or ear phones and never say a word to the person sitting across the room from them. There was a time not so long ago when people actually talked to one another instead of sending texts, e-mails, or walked around listening to music in their headphones. For a person, who spent almost 22 years in sales, those forms of communication are a distraction to me. I would much rather sit across the table or next to a person and hear the sound of their voice. You can learn so much more about a person from listening to their voice inflections and the sound of their breathing as they speak rather than reading words on a screen. On the other hand, while electronic devices may make it easier to communication for some folks, digitally generated letters and images are impersonal which makes the use of emoticons and other forms of internet slang necessary as a way for people to express what they believe to be the correct emotion for a given situation.

I grabbed a few links off the web which may help.

How are you spending your "Dash"?

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning to the end

He noted that first came the date of her birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life’s actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

My opinion of Twitter...

Twitter is for people who are already popular (celebrities) not for folks like me who can't bribe anyone to follow them except people trying to sell crap or hookers trying to convince me, to pay them, to converse with me, on their webcam.

This has pretty much been the story of my life. Unless, I am buying dinner or drinks I can't get a woman to just hangout with me because they always have something better to do. I guess that comes with the territory when you are not all that interesting. The problem with that line of thought is I am pretty damn interesting if anyone would just take the time to find out.

Yes, I am a little nerdy. (Well ok a lot nerdy) (nerds make good lovers)
Yes, I no longer draw a very large salary. (Truth is I never did)
Yes, I am 48 years old and have never been married. (No Kids)
Yes, I have had lots of girlfriends. (Many for short periods of time)
Yes, I love to cook. (Very good at it)
Yes, I love to talk. (Especially, if I can get anyone to listen)
Yes, I watch lots of television. (Only when there is no one to talk to)
Yes, I like controversy. (But not cruelty)
Yes, I like Photography. (30+ years behind the camera and am still learning)
Yes, I spend lots of time on my laptop. (Only when there is no one around)

Now you see why Twitter is not for people like me or is it?

A Challenge to Myself...

I wish I had the creative writing skills necessary to draw a story out and develop all the characteristic nuances necessary to pull a reader in and keep them interested for the length of time it takes to read a novel. I have a tendency to get straight to the point which in some cases needs to be made a little less sharp because although a cut made with a sharp knife is cleaner it can also appear to be much messier.

I come from a background which covers the who, when, what, where and how in as succinct a manner as possible which comes across as harsh at times in my writings. I am going to work to develop the skills necessary to be a better writer as to cause less controversy in the future. ;)

Even the poor have stuff in America!!!

I have been mulling this over for awhile and I am truly blessed to live in the United States where even the poor people are rich compared to the rest of the world.

I find it ironic that a person (me) living below the poverty line in this country for the last 10 years can still be considered poor and have a roof over his head, air conditioning, a decent car to drive, healthcare and a monthly check, lots of photography equipment, clothes on his back and many more which should be given away, food in his belly, a laptop, desktop computer, 32 inch colored television, smart phone, Hi speed computer network/cable television, tons of books, fishing tackle, guns, archery equipment, money in my pocket for gas, drinks and food. What else does a person need? Grant it all this stuff is not new but it is all paid for and the only bills I have are doctor bills and basic living expenses.

The greatest gift of all are my friends whom even when we fight know where the lines are and even though they step over them they do not stay very long.

Yes, I am a broke ass middle aged man but if women would quite reminding me I would be just fine. :)

Oh and I have 2 freezers and a fridge full of food. Low income? Yep. Poor? Sure. Helpless? Not by a long shot.

Chinese Food Recipes

The Chinese, like the French, are a nation of food lovers, and the preparation and enjoyment of food plays a central part in their way of life. The Chinese culinary tradition, one of the oldest in the world, now enjoys an almost unprecedented popularity in the West. About one third of the world's population eat Chinese food everyday of their lives, yet it is much, much more than the daily sustenance of a great many people. Even if it were only eaten regularly by a handful of obscure gourmets, Chinese cooking would still be important for it is one of the truly great and original cuisines of the world.

Recipes Of Japan

Japanese meals vary according to the needs of the occasion. The main styles are the family meal, the packed meal and the formal meal. The art of Japanese food arrangement is characterized by certain broad concepts. Foremost among these is the concept that empty space has a beauty of its own. The balance between vessel and space, and space and food, are also considered crucial. This balance varies according to the season, the design of the utensils and tableware, the type of food, the venue, and even the age of the guests. When multicolored foods are arranged on serving dishes, great attention is paid to spacing - where and how to leave empty areas to best emphasis the beauty of the dish. This is based on concept of ma : space as dynamic entity, and an integral and vital component of any composition. The beauty of finished dish is considered as important s the various ingredients that go into its composition.

 Malaysian Recipes

Malaysia, a country made up of the majority of Malays, Chinese and Indian. A potpourri enriched with the indigenous traditions of Ibans, Kadazan, Dusuns and other ethnic communities of East Malaysia .
In Malaysia rice tends to be a staple food as in most countries in the same region so do noodles. Generally, Malay and Indian cuisine are spicier while Chinese cuisine is milder in taste. There are also cuisines of other ethnic groups, and a growing range of international cuisines. At each meal, a generous helping accompanies a selection of dishes, including fish, seafood, vegetables, and poultry. Beef is conspicuously absent, as it is across much of Asia
Rasa malaysia
Known for its spicy nature and rich flavours, Indonesian cuisine is also famous for its unique blend of sweet and sour spiciness. A typical Indonesian sauce includes chilli padi, shrimp paste, sugar and white vinegar. Though Indonesian and Nonya cuisines share very similar cooking techniques and ingredients, the most distinguished feature of the latter is that besides amalgamating the Chinese style of cooking of cooking and its rich culture into its cuisine; pork is also used. This is absent from traditional Indonesian dishes.

Hi! I’m Maangchi! Welcome to my website!
I was born and raised in Korea and have been interested in cooking and food since I was a little girl. I live in New York City now, and love to learn about food from other cultures, too. On April 9 2007, I posted a video of myself cooking Korean food on YouTube, just for fun. Right away, people were interested in it, so I’ve been making them ever since.

From Pinterest:
PHO - The key to the Vietnamese noodle soup pho is in the broth. Beef bones, onions, star anise, ginger, and fish sauce get simmered for 6 to 10 hours to create a rich and flavorful base for this hearty and comforting soup... This authentic pho isn't quick, but it is delicious. The key is in the broth, which gets simmered for at least 6 hours.

Cognitive Calisthenics ...

I struggled for about 35.5 seconds with the title of this blog so if it makes no sense, who are you to judge me? Stop it! :)

There are times when I go for months without writing anything on my blog which is another reason, besides the fact that I have A.D.D. (even though I hate math) I never kept a journal growing up. I have always written since childhood but my writing were always on pieces of scrap paper, blank pages in notebooks which always became misplaced or napkins in a restaurant or bar. The "creative" process comes in spurts and when it happens I have to write which is why I keep a pen close by at all times. I have written songs which were #1 hits and poems which would have made me a giant in literary circles and a best selling author had my work not been lost.

Once told by a supervisor who was attempting to entangle me in one of his hair-brained NLP schemes that I had a poverty mentality which infuriated me yet those words have been burning in my brain for over 15 years.

Funny how seemly insignificant words affect one's psyche if allowed to remain in residence.
I now realize I have replayed his words over and over in my mind many times during the last 15 years and can't help but wonder what if any part they have played in the life I have led since hearing those words so long ago.

I decided since the title of this blog is "Cognitive Calisthenics" that I would see what others have written on the subject and below is a list of websites on the subject:

1. Easy Ways to Keep Your Mind Sharp
2. Mind Games: Cognitive Calisthenics
3. As Minds Age, What’s Next? Brain Calisthenics

OK, so these links have nothing to do with what I wrote but they are on the subject of Cognitive Calisthenics so who's the genius now? Ha.

Memories and other crap which fight for space in my brain!!!

My mom is a very good home cook and her presence in the house as I was growing up has had a profound influence on my life.

Some of my best childhood memories are connected to the holidays at my Aunt's house with my family, eating good food. Others are foods cooked at a hunting camp in the woods or eating freshly caught fish on a beach or on the bank of a river. Now that I think about it most of my childhood memories have something to do with food either eating, cooking, catching or hunting it.

If it grows above or in the ground, flies, swims, runs, hops, climbs, slithers or crawls I will season it and prepare it as a meal. There is very little I have found which I will not at least try to eat. However, I draw the line at anything that smells bad. If I can't get it past my nose I can't put it in my mouth.

Pinterest- My interests vary and pinterest allows me an outlet to collect a few in a central location.
Facebook- It's a way to waste time communicating with other people who are wasting time.
My Blog- A place where I can "throw it all in the pot" for the world to see if they happen to stumble across it. There are a few things you will not read here for which I apologize in advance but there are just some aspects of one's life which should not be revisited. It combines my love of cooking with my love of writing and hopefully the folks who read it will get a little pleasure out of my trying to be ME.
Twitter- I haven't quite gotten the hang of it. Apparently, you are supposed to condense every thought or circumstance which arises throughout your day so that they fit a 140 character template and send them to your followers. Wow, who has followers or better yet who has followers who give a crap about the random things you do throughout the day?

There are days when I actually wonder if dementia is really so bad especially when the only memories running through my brain are ones I would most like to forget.
The more I think about it I realize there are almost as many memories which should not be brought to light as there are which can be revealed. The truth of the matter is most of the (let's call them) "forbidden memories" are not mine alone so not having exclusive rights to them places them in the hands off category. That being said I am reminded of a verse in the bible which reads, "A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof" (Proverbs 18:20-21).
In other words, "Be careful what you say because you are going to live or die by the words which proceed out of your mouth."

Since my last visit to this page a few things of note have occurred in my life. I have been asked to teach a Civics class in the Fall to 3 students at a private Christian school. Of all the subjects I probably know the least about Civics however I have always heard that if you really want to learn a subject, teach it. Also, I will be the head "Chef"(Lunchroom Man) at the school preparing meals for 45 students and faculty 4 days per week. Now cooking is a subject I know a lot about which should be loads of fun.
Became the "curator" of an abondoned cemetery where two of my fraternity brothers (Freemasons) were buried in the early 1900's so I am excited about getting the place fixed up.

Still single with no baby mamma drama so everything is OK in my world.

"Time keep on slipping into the future" Steve Miller Band

The words of this song seem to become much more real with each passing day. At 48 years old I sometimes reminisce about the days gone by and realize that I have less days left than I have spent on earth.

If I live to be 70 it means I have approx. 7500 days left on this earth and then it is off into the great beyond. The big question is, How am I going to spend the days I have left?

How many days have some people spent ticked off at someone else because of something they may have said or done which rubbed them the wrong way. Wasted time!

How many days have people spent in relationships married or otherwise with other people who make them miserable? Wasted Time!

How many days or years have we spent driving to and from jobs that we hate? Wasted time!

This could go on for hours but it would be waste of more time. I hope this makes you think about how you are spending your precious time.
I posted this on my Facebook page and these are the responses I received.
Jimmy Wayne Williams Jr. this thought has me on the verge of quitting my day job and just focusing on the ministry. So many broken lives, so little time...

David Carroll
Brother Williams, For some reason this line of thought came crashing down on me like a ton of bricks early this morning. I could not help but think about my dad who left the house one sunny Sunday morning in October 1997 and a couple of hours later his time ran out. I wonder how he would have spent those last few hours had he known they were his last ones? I know we can not live in fear of death but instead we should be celebrating life. How do we do that when we allow the cares of this world to daily wear us down? Do we as Christians re-access our walk with Christ and spend our days reaching out to what we perceive to be a lost and dying world or do we withdraw into ourselves and spend the time we have left working on our own faults and foibles because after all if we fail in that respect we will be lost for eternity?

For my friends who do not believe we will be held accountable for our deeds I pray for your sake and mine that you are right because if you are wrong then we are all going to have a lot to answer for someday.
It has never been my calling to preach so I will leave that to the preachers but I can say that life is shorter than any of us realize and if we are going to do anything for Christ we better do it now before it is too late.

Brother Williams, you will do the right thing.
